Chapter 1
Overview of JAMS Installation

This chapter provides a general overview of the steps involved in installing and configuring JAMS.

JAMS consists of a number of components. The components that you choose to install will depend upon your environment and requirements. The components are:

1.1 JAMS OpenVMS based Scheduler

The Scheduler is the heart of JAMS and is the only required component. The Scheduler runs on OpenVMS. Installing JAMS on OpenVMS will install the Scheduler and OpenVMS based clients and servers.

1.2 JAMS Windows NT/200X Agent

If you want to run jobs on Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows 2003, you have to install the JAMS Agent. The Agent must be installed on every system that you want to run jobs on. The Agent can be installed on workstations an servers.

1.3 JAMS Windows<->OpenVMS Connection Server

The JAMS Windows<->OpenVMS Connection Server provides connection pooling for the JAMS Windows Client. The Connection Server runs as a Service on a Windows NT/200X machine. You must install the OpenVMS Connection Server if you want to use the JAMS Windows Client. A single OpenVMS Connection Server can support many clients.

1.4 JAMS Windows Client

The JAMS Windows Client provides a Windows GUI for JAMS. It also includes the JAMSShr.dll library that exposes JAMS as .NET objects that you can embed in your applications.
